10,11 & 12 JUNE @ SIGN+, de SALON and de GYM, GRONINGEN
Spread Zinefest is held at three locations;
2 de Gym
2 de Salon
The exhibitions and projects Sign organises in it’s space and elsewhere are interdisciplinary, experimental and up to date. Presentations move around on the edges that appear to be customary in art, the art-world and society, implicit the digital world and the role of the public.
Proceeding from the surprising points of view and the individual power of the artist/curator Sign plays with the artistic and social spot, function and meaning of art. Sign generates for all this possibilities beyond limiting or dogmatic preconditions. This way residencies, publications, performances, cognitive actions, interventions, work in progress, audio-visual combinations, new and ‘old’ media etc. are part of our activities.

The building of de GYM has a rich history. The former Willem Lodewijk Gymnasium at the Oosterstraat in Groningen was the location of a riksbios, a group of squaters and a disco with the beautiful name Pruim City. On the 29th of June 2013 de Gym opened their doors.
Ever since this is the place for payable underground concerts, performances and exhibitions. De Gym worked together with Sign+, de Popacademie Leeuwarden, Kantoorpoëzie, de theatergezelschappen Jonge Sla en De Noorderlingen, het Jonge Harten Theaterfestival, Kutgitaat Magazine, Stardust, #Church, All is Giving, Mini Drawings, The Haunted Studio, Owsum, Wolvon, Floss and Sexton Creeps.
De Gym organised Euromoney 2014 and 2015 (alternative for Eurosonic). There were also some spectacular changes in de Gym; In 2013 de Gym was a Trendy Asian restaurant, easter 2014 an egg restaurant and during WK 2014 we hosted five WKaraoke eveneings.

De Salon offers a circular platform for young artists (from all kinds of disciplines). This means that it not only is a platform for exposure, but also a place in which they can work and produce.
The products we sell are from young artists working in small quantities and are exploring todays / futures society; think of subculture, pop culture, visual culture. The products that are sold are mainly books and other printed matter.
To give the artists a place to explore, experiment and create, we offer both fixed workplaces and flexible workplaces. In these workplaces, it is intended that artists get in touch with each other in order to inspire and stimulate each other, to be able to discuss with each other and to build up a network.
The artists can (re)produce their products in the small graphic workshop. Here you can find options like printing, graphic techniques: drypoint / linocut / monoprint and bookbinding.
The workshop will expand over time, so their will be more options in the future. This is not only used by the artists who rent a workplace, but is also for public use.
